Instructions
To be a contestant, you must be between 7 and 18 years old and have consent from your parent/guardian.
Kids:
- Make sure to download or print the Official Animalia Fake! Scoresheet ahead of time.
- Prepare to mention the following on the show:
- your top 1-5 favorite animals,
- how long you’ve been listening to Kingdom: Animalia,
- and how you discovered the show.
- You should have a microphone (a dynamic mic is preferred) and headphones or a pair of headphones with a built-in microphone. A standalone mic is the best option, and wired headphones with a built-in mic are the second best. If you don’t have either, ask your parent/guardian(s) if they can buy you a pair of cheap, wired earbuds with a built-in mic (like Apple EarPods).* They sound surprisingly good, and have a better, more reliable connection than Bluetooth headphones. Make sure the intended mic and headphones are set to your device’s input and output before recording.
- Make sure you will not have any notifications or alarms go off during the recording.
- Note: Your voice and what you say will be published to the public for anyone to listen. You will be sent the final edit of the episode before it is released so you can request something you said be edited out.
Parents/Guardians:
- Make sure your child has access to a phone or tablet with the Riverside app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store)—which is free and does not require you to create an account—or simply a computer to join the meeting with.
- They should have a microphone (a dynamic mic is preferred) and headphones or a pair of headphones with a built-in microphone. A standalone mic is the best option, and wired headphones with a built-in mic are the second best. If you don’t have either, buying cheap, wired earbuds with a built-in mic (like Apple EarPods) would be appreciated, if possible.† They sound surprisingly good, and have a better, more reliable connection than Bluetooth headphones. Make sure the intended mic and headphones are set to the device’s input and output before recording.
- They will need a quiet place to record with as little echo as possible, good internet connection, and no interruptions. This could be their bedroom, a closet or a pantry.
- Make sure your child will not have any notifications or alarms go off during the recording.
- Note: Your child’s voice and what they say will be published to the public for anyone to listen. You will be sent the final edit of the episode before it is released so you or your child can request something they said be edited out. Ensure your child knows all of this.
Before the Recording
- When we receive your application, we will sort out a time to record. I live in California, so my timezone is US Pacific Time. Remember: Animalia Fake! episodes are every third-ish episode, skipping Halloween and April Fools’ Day.
- We will send you a join link and further instructions after the time has been decided upon, and two days in advance of the recording.
* † Make sure they have the right plug for your device.
